About Robert Dodde

I'm a Robotics Design Engineer at Stryker. In other words, I design robotics components for the CNC machining of the human body.I'm intimately involved in developing a mechanism that allows for the interchanging of end effectors, or power tools, on the end of a robotic arm while operating in a sterile field. The design needs to allow for user simplicity to implement, maintain repeatable and interchangeable kinematic positioning on a tool tip, and also maintain sterility in the surgical field.The complexity of this mechanism is staggering, only being matched by the innovative design solutions we've been utilizing to tackle the problem. The playground I've been given to fool around in, and the playmates I've been able to work with, keep me coming back for more every day.I continue to do what I do at work in my personal life as well. I love to tinker, especially in the areas of woodworking and electronic circuits. I have made my own sea kayak, clocks, picture frames (of course), and most of the furniture in my wood shop. I am currently retrofitting a chest freezer into a temperature controlled environment for bread proofing (I LOVE to bake), beer fermenting (another yeast-based activity...plus some other benefits!), and seed starting for the garden.
