1st Class Machinist

Started working at Electro-Motors inc my senior year in high school. This shop taught me a very great deal of experience and knowledge, that I still use today. Started off being a mechanic, tearing down varies types of AC and DC motors, pumps, clutch motors, shaker motors and more.After determining the failure of each job, they was repaired as needed, shafts and/or impellers balanced, new bearings installed and reassembled. Then we test ran each motor on the switch board to its full voltage, checking the amps, proper voltage and smoothness of our balancing work and internal noises of bearings and clearance of all mechanical parts.I learned to pour Babbitt bearings, both split housings and solid housings. Machine ID to bearing spec tolerence and mill oil pockets for each half to be lubricated while running under a load.We welded shafts an also machined new shafts, drew our own blueprints and machined accordingly to achieve proper tolerences.Learned how to balance shafts, rotors an impellers of varies sizes.We would go to different refineries and pull large motors and bring them back to shop for repairs, then carry motor back completed, reinstalled and lined up the pulleys or hubs to its mating drive coupling, and test again running to make sure everything was functional to the customers standards.This is also where we used inside an outside micrometers, 12, 18, 24, 36, and 48" vernier calipers. Also .001 shim stock and plasti gauge to check an record all dimensions of motors mechanical fits for U.L. (Underwriters Laboratories) Certified it as an explosion proof motor under the given specs per each job.The last three years I was a working supervisor over the machine shop, my duties were to order materials for each job, along with varies tooling we might need.
