I have continued to perform similar routine work as at NHSBT Filton but with a larger part of my role being devoted to training other members of staff. I have enrolled on courses, Effective Communication Skills and ILM Award for first time Line Managers, to help me to develop these skills. I have also attended the Beckman Coulter Navios training course to learn how to set up protocols on this piece of equipment to supplement my training in how to use the machine routinely. At Oxford I have learnt to use new pieces of equipment (Sysmex haematology analyser) and have continued to learn new techniques such as setting up and reading Colony Forming Unit (CFU) assays to assess the functional viability of haemopoietic stem cells.
Working as a trainee and completing a Biomedical Scientist training program, routine tasks include collection, receipt and evaluation, analysis, processing and infusion of stem cell donations from both autologous and allogeneic donors. I have extensive experience of using Hematos computer software, Microsoft Office programs and Beckman Coulter CXP software. I validate and maintain equipment (Beckman Coulter Navios, FC500, AcT8, Biosafe SEPAX) and order stock and reagents for routine stem cell analysis and processing. I participate in laboratory audits as part of a Quality Assurance system and train members of staff and demonstrate the work done in the laboratory to laboratory visitors.
routine tasks included the processing, cryopreservation and analysis of umbilical cord blood donations (Biosafe SEPAX, Coolmix, Thermogesis BioArchive) as well as training staff in all of these procedures.
Agency position, routine tasks included processing whole blood donations. The position also involved the use of specialised computer software (PULSE) for recording donations and the processing steps performed.
Undergraduate modules as part of my Biomedical Scientist training program; Haematology and Transfusion, Medical Microbiology, Human.
