Project Manager
Building Boat And House
Currently taking a year out to refit my boat, restore an E Type Jaguar and finish my house - I built the boat when I was 20 and this is its first major refit. The boat is a 40 foot trimaran and the work involves repositioning the outriggers, changing the keel, modifying the mast and overhauling the sterndrives. I am also altering the bulbous bow and improving fuel capacity by building new tanks out of stainless steel (welding stainless can be a pain...).
Project Manager
Sub-programme Project Controls Manager, Heathrow, UK (2011-2012) – Worked in a client facing environment directly for BAA, managing the infrastructure project controls team as well as several top tier projects within the BAA ‘Airside’ sub-programme of works at Heathrow Airport. Main responsibilities included: managing project controls managers assigned to T4 & T5 projects; monitoring contractors’ Earned Value (EV) performance data, using EVA (earned value analysis) tools and methodologies to track and interpret EV metrics, undertaking integrity tests of information; organising and attending site visits with contractors to review work-in-progress; providing strong support and advice to BAA regarding project performance and preparing monthly board level reports.Enabling Team, @onealliance, East Anglia, UK (2010 – 2011) – Anglian Water – Enabling Manager The @oneAlliance is a collaborative organisation, formed to deliver a large part of the Anglian Water AMP5 capital investment programme. The role of enabling manager was formed to enhance the enabling service provided to project teams by developing performance management techniques, improving processes and delivering efficiency savings. Water Meter Exchange Project, East Anglia, UK (2007 – 2010) – Anglian Water – project manager. Anglian Water has one of the largest meter stocks of the UK water industry. As meters age they can lose accuracy and reliability. This £19 million project was the first wide-scale proactive replacement programme and was seen as the model for all future UK replacement projects. The project had two main purposes, the first was to exchange 234,000 of the older water meters and the second was to produce a robust model that determines the economic replacement point for domestic water meters. The project was completed ahead of schedule and significantly under budget at £16.5 million.
Project Manager And Designer
Water Cascade, Port Haliguen, France – Sagemor – project manager/solution designer. This role involved all aspects of the design and proposal for the construction of a water cascade in this historic French port. The stone foundations of a small lighthouse had lain empty for many years; this project was to create something special and artistic to place on this empty plinth. After extensive one to one consultations with the Mairie (Mayor) and the port authorities (in French): funding and the contract to design and construct this project were awarded. Working alone on all aspects of the design, build, construction and assembly, the finished product was a stainless steel water cascade with lighting, sea water recirculation system and final waterfall of 4.5 metres.
Project Manager And Designer
Port redevelopment, La Roche Bernard, France – Sagemor –project manager/solution designer. The project brief was to produce a proposal for the partial redevelopment of the waterfront area in La Roche Bernard. The concrete bridge supports for the now-removed floating bridge (part of the original Normandy D Day landings pontoons) had eroded and exposed the steel reinforcement. The structure had become unsafe and unsightly to the eye. The project was to create a way of turning this hazard into a feature more befitting an historic town. This involved designing a solution and then reporting to a consortium of La Roche Bernard marina, the Syndicat du Port and the Mayor’s office. These stakeholders’ requirements had to be fully captured and acted on in French. The project and funding was awarded and the role changed to implementing the design while minimising the impact on the tourist season. The finished development was completed ahead of schedule and is now a focal point for the port.Sub-role – In addition, a role of advisor for the extension of the port was taken on. This €800,000 project was based on a personal proposal put forward in August 2002 for the extension of the port with pontoons to accommodate another 100 boats. Previously the port authorities had thought this was not possible due to the wash from passing boats and the prevailing westerly winds that had caused much damage in the winter storms of 2000. However with prior experience of methods for strengthening pontoon systems gained during the design of the barrage system, a method for overcoming this was presented to the management and accepted. The resulting increase in capacity greatly improved access to the port and the pontoons have since successfully weathered many storms.
Project Manager And Designer
The project brief was to design and construct a system to protect boats from driftwood dislodged by winter floods. The solution was a multipurpose barrage system that in winter was anchored upstream to divert driftwood. In the summer, this could be moved to the other side of the marina and rearranged to provide additional overflow mooring capacity for visiting boats. After extensive testing, the barrage was constructed and it has since successfully protected boats and has provided much needed additional capacity to this busy port.
English Teacher
While studying for a degree, the opportunity to enhance training skills and group management abilities was taken. This involved working as an English teacher. The role involved conducting English lessons with typical class sizes of 20 pupils; preparation of materials and maintaining discipline.
Team Manager
Managing a multicultural, multinational team of 15 agents providing service to British Airway’s USA customers. The role involved management of holidays, rotas, team budgets, setting of team targets and conducting monthly reporting sessions to senior management.
