Biomedical research scientist, principal investigator/project director and informaticist with more than forty years knowledge and professional experience of academic, hospital and government research operations and activities, including complex epidemiological research studies and clinical trials. Specialized training and experience in biomedical disciplines includes reproductive medicine and genetics, assisted reproductive technologies, early development and implantation, and oncology. Other scientific interests include single cell genetic testing, stem cell biology, fertilization, pregnancy, infertility and gestational diabetes. Laboratory technical background includes experience with diverse physiological, cellular and molecular models and instrumentation. Broad informatics knowledge and experience includes bioinformatics, web-based data collection systems, biomedical databases, and electronic health records. For example, I have led projects to develop the Simplified Disease Classification (SDC) and clinical states in oncology for the NCI Clinical Trials Evaluation Program (CTEP), a large literature review of psychosocial aspects of pediatric transplantation for the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA), and biomedical and laboratory data collection in the Longitudinal Investigation of Fertility and the Environment (LIFE) landmark study for the NICHD Division of Intramural Population Health Research (DIPHR). Other key studies include leading the data coordinating center for a longitudinal investigation of gestational diabetes in the NICHD-sponsored Diabetes & Women’s Health study, leading the data coordinating center for the NICHD-sponsored National Fetal Growth Study, development of a standardized vocabulary for the secondary use of electronic medical records (EMR) in the NICHD-sponsored Consortium on Safe Labor (CSL), development of common data elements (CDEs) for substance use disorders in electronic health records (EHR), an electronic clinical quality measure (eCQM) for substance use disorders, and a clinical decision support (CDS) algorithm for opioid use disorder for the NIDA Clinical Trials Network.
