Dr. Kramer completed fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology in 2001and worked at the University of Miami as an assistant professor, providing clinical care and performing research in the field of pediatric obesity. He was recruited to return to the University of Colorado in 2006 to become the Director of Endoscopy and direct the adolescent obesity program there. He also lead the advanced and therapeutic endoscopy program at Children's Hospital of Colorado, as one of the few pediatric gastroenterologists in the US performing ERCP in children. In 2011 he was promoted to Associate professor and became Co-Medical Director for the Digestive Health Institute (DHI). In 2013 he completed formal training in Quality Improvement through the University's IHQSE certificate program and focused on developing systems to track adverse events related to pediatric endoscopy. He was the director of endoscopic training and in 2015 he became associate director of the fellowship program in pediatric gastroenterology. He has published extensively in his field, with over sixty peer reviewed manuscripts, ten book chapters and six medical illustrations. In 2017 he was promoted to full professor. In 2019-2020 he completed training as a Physician Builder in the EPIC EMR system and became the medical informaticist for the DHI. During the COVID pandemic he lead the section's rapid transition to telehealth, ramping up to over 500 visits per week and the largest volume TH provider within the Department of Pediatrics. From 2022-2023 he served as the Interim Co-Chief of the section, which was enjoying their second year ranked as the #1 section of pediatric gastroenterology in the USNWR rankings. In 2023 he became the DHI's first Director of Clinical Operations, helping to guide the clinical practice and day to day operations of this large academic practice of 39 physicians and 12 advanced practice providers. This practice sees over 25,000 patients and performs over 5,000 endoscopic procedures per year, consistently ranked as one of the top five peds GI programs in the country.
