Robert Edington has been active in the field of seismic 2D and 3D data acquisition since 1977. He has extensive experience on geophysical marine research vessels, land crews, and drilling platforms in several parts of the globe. He has been employed as a consultant for the seismic industry for most of the past fifteen years. He has several years of operations experience and has served in many different roles and positions. As a consultant, he has been responsible for the interests of oil companies on crews and drilling platforms of various contractors. He has been on deep-water (streamer) crews, high resolution mid-depth crews, shallow water (OBC), and various types of drilling platforms performing borehole seismic surveys. He has also performed safety audits/assessments on seismic vessels for clients.He was recruited by Teledyne Exploration as a Junior Observer in 1977, immediately after completion of training in electronics at United Electronics Institute in Little Rock, Arkansas. He worked for 6 years on land seismic acquisition crews as a Junior Observer and Observer/Instrument Engineer, in the United States, Middle East, Alaska, and Venezuela. In 1983, he transferred to the Marine Division of Geophysical Services Incorporated and subsequently worked in Alaska, California, Costa Rica, the Gulf of Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. From 1983 to 1997, he held the positions of Systems Operator, Shift Leader, Navigator, Systems Engineer, Party Manager, and Coordinator. As such, he has a great deal of experience and knowledge in conducting 2-D, 3-D, and dual-vessel surface seismic surveys. This including but not limited to surveys in rig-infested areas, hazardous shallow water environments, deep and shallow water fishing areas, shipping lanes, anchorage and bunkering areas, strong current areas, etc. – both domestic and foreign.Since 1998, Mr. Edington has been representing and assisting client companies in the field as well as shore-side.
