The University of Springfield's Illinois Legislative Staff Intern Program(ILSIP for short), is a ten month internship program where I work at the Illinois General Assembly. Upon its conclusion I will be offered a full-time position with the specific legislative staff I have been assigned to. For my internship I have been assigned to Illinois' Committee on Government Forecasting and Accountability(CoGFA), a committee tasked with providing data on revenue, pensions, and research. I am given the same tasks of regular employees, and work a standard 8:30 to 4:30 day. I am also attending the PSC 525 class that will provide credit for a Master's Degree, as part of ILSIP. Upon the conclusion of ILSIP I will either accept a full-time position, pursue a Master's degree in Public Policy, or partake in the University of Springfield's Graduate Intern Programs.

While attending college at both Blackhawk and Augustana, i worked part time at my local Hyvee. Throughout my tenure I was quickly promoted from courtesy clerk, to checker, to produce clerk owing to my hard work, and attention to detail. Oftentimes I lend a hand to other departments, during emergencies and am the first to volunteer when need be. While most of these emergencies are minor(cleaning up vomit, and dealing with massive influx of customers), I have had to step up during power outages to preserve our perishable product. In the process I extensively dealt with customers across a wide range of demographics, and learned the importance of productivity, and flexibility to keep up with shifts in the retail market. I worked to maintain close attention to detail in the produce department to keep shelves full, and remove bad product. Worked full time during my gap year. Left work to pursue ILSIP internship.

After being recommended by the campaign manager of the Angie Normoyle for Congress campaign, I began work during the later phases of Mike Halpin's State Senate campaign. I traveled across Northwestern Illinois from Rock Island, Galesburg, and down to Monmouth helping to secure votes. I attended multiple parades, and campaign events, though my activities were restricted to holding up sign, and tossing out candy. I also constructed two spreadsheets using Google Sheets, though a NDA prevents from from clarifying what was in them. My internship ended following our victory on election day.

For a month I canvassed, and conducted donor research for the Angie Normoyle campaign in the Democratic primaries in IL-17th congressional district. My travels were restricted to the Quad Cities area, and neighboring Coal Valley, where I canvassed door to door to rally support. I also participated in phone banking extensively. I learned some features of the NGP "minivan" software to research potential donors for the campaign. Sadly it was a competitive primary, and we faced a much better known and well funded candidate. Thus my internship concluded shortly after our loss in the primary election. I was later recommended to "Friends of Mike Halpin", a campaign for the 36th state senate district.
