About Robert Fitzpatrick
I am the programme lead for the Masters level MSc Minerals Processing programme at the Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter. The programme is unique in the UK and covers both mineral processing and extractive metallurgy as well as focussing on the improtance of Geometallurgy. I also lecture in subjects relating to mineral prcoessing and extractive metallurgy at both undergraduate and postrgaduate level. I am currently working on the European funded Horizon 2020 IMP@CT project which is investigating the potential for small-scale modular mining and processing to secure the suppl yof critical metals in the EU.I have a PhD student working under me investigating enhanced gravity separators using computational fluid dynamics and the discrete element method. I also have an EngD student who is investigating the recovery of lithium from sources in the UK.My other research intersts revolve around the use of hyperspectral imaging to improve the control of mineral processing unit operations and the use of sensor-based sorting in mineral processing.Before taking on my current role I acted as the Experimental Offcier and Lab Manager for the Mineral Processing lab at the Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter. Prior to this, I worked at SGS Mineral Services in Lakefield, Ontario, CA as a metallurgist/minerals engineer. Within this role I worked on bench and pilot scale test work used for mine feasibility and optimisation projects. I was a project manager for all sorting test work and worked as a member of a team for projects covering a wide range of mineral processing activities.I attended university at the Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter from 2001-2008. In this time I obtained a 1st class degree in Mining Engineering and a PhD in Earth Resources for research into the use of automated sorters in the minerals industry.
