My role is to support and develop informatics to facilitate the clinical research aims of the respiratory Biomedical Research Unit (BRU). To achieve this I am using existing freely available tools, and if required modifying these tools. Where appropriate I am also developing bespoke tools and scripts to fit the specific needs of the BRU.

My responsibilities as lead developer and maintainer for the GWAS Central project included producing: a bespoke BioMart-based tool (GWASmart); flexible genetic data import tools; web-site and user interface design; an integrated GBrowse-based genome browser; and an RDF triplestore and SPARQL end-point containing semantically enhanced association data.I was also involved in the first phase of the BRISSkit project. I devised a simple approach to represent ontology codes representing questionnaire research data; and modified a customer relationship management system (CiviCRM) into a research study recruitment enrollment tool by developing specific work-flows.
