Technical Development Director, Hurricane Forecast Improvement Project
Current• A10 year project to cut errors in hurricane forecasts in half.• At the end of ten years the error in forecasts of landfall after 5 days will be less than 80 miles• About what they are now at two days. • If this accuracy had been available during Katrina the final landfall in New Orleans could have been forecast to within 80 miles five days ahead.On leave from NCAR for 4 years to work on the project and will likely retire after that.
