As Pre-Construction Manager my duties involve heading up the Estimating Team and bid process and generally taking overall responsibility for the enquiry/sub-contract up until the point of handover to the relevant Contracts Manager and their associated project team. My role involves finding new opportunities for Dodd Group to secure; building relationships with potential clients and maintaining relationships with existing customers; working very closely with the Estimating Team, Design Team and Commercial Team to ensure that we provide comprehensive tender submissions, to the highest standard, whilst mitigating commercial risk.Once a project is secured, I will review the sub-contract documentation and provide a commentary against the content, as part of a collective effort with our Regional Director and Commercial Manager.I will attend, where required, internal tender adjudications, tender interviews, post tender meetings, design team meetings, pre-let meetings and pre-construction handover meetings.Although the role is predominately a pre-construction function; I will have an involvement in each and every project through to practical completion, providing support to the project team as and when required on any pre-construction and commercial matters.

My position involves preparing detailed tender submissions for various project values across numerous business sectors. The position involves reviewing the suitability/feasibility of the tender enquiry; preparation and issuing of sub-contract packages for market testing; material/labour take-off; sub-contract compliance analysis; tender adjudication with Bid Managers and Directors; preparation of the tender submission/supporting case study information applicable and following up the submission with the client. In some cases, the role involves preparing detailed cost plans and budgetary quotations where the information available is not to a comprehensible standard.On occasion I will also help our project team with Quantity Surveying duties such as variations, sub-contract compliance issues, client/sub-contract negotiation and ensuring that the design is suitable from a commercial perspective. I also review the content of every sub-contract that we receive at the Northampton office and ensure that our commercial risk is minimised. A substantial part of the role is client facing; I attend all mid-tender, post tender and pre-let meetings for each project along with key design team meetings (DTMs) to represent Dodd Group commercially.

I started Terrapin straight from school after completing my A-Levels.My initial job role was Trainee Electrical Estimator/Designer. My main responsibilities at Terrapin were to estimate electrical projects for the business and provide CAD drawings to the project team.Once I had completed my 3 years at college, 'Trainee' was removed from my job title and I became Terrapin's sole Electrical Estimator.I had a brief stint as an Electrical Project Manager for a small project we completed called NMJ Motorhouse in Edlesborough, which was a great success.After that I was tasked to manage productivity of Terrapin's production line for HMP Littlehey, where I supervised 6 electricians and 3 plumbers on a day to day basis and attended weekly progress meetings with the management team.
