The function of risk management is rapidly changing. Managing risks in a consistent way that is both integrated and flexible is needed in order to achieve a high degree of efficiency. The majority of risks in organizations are best managed by the risk owner with the support from risk professionals. A framework that includes a mission statement, a common risk concept etc. that emphasize on change and adaptation instead of the usage of RM tools will lead to a more modern approach. RM tools are an important part of a framework but the tools are not the purpose.

The position was created to solve a specific sets of problems as well as being a part of regional risk management and also as strategic developer for IKEA Global risk management.Achievements for IKEA Global risk management:Developed new IKEA Blue compliance tool modelled on insurance industry risk engineering, with main focuses of property protection, life safety and natural hazards. The tool was successfully launched is now used worldwide.Co-developed IKEA SecCheck compliance tool with focus on operational risks.Developed internal standards and guidelines for property protection, life safety and natural hazards with strong influence from NFPA and EN as well as FM.Achievements for Asia-Pacific regional:Created and implemented processes and standards to ensure compliance for ongoing and future expansion.Designed learning program and conducted trainings mainly in regards of life safety, fire prevention, fire management but also insuranceProvided expert knowledge guidance and consulting, with clear positive impact resultSupported Ikano retail Asia (sister company) with their Thailand entry and expansionAchievements for China and JapanIdentified non-compliance in regards of life safety and fire protection in all operational IKEA Stores and Distribution Centres in China and Japan.Developed strategy and created umbrella structure with location specific projects to correct indentified non-compliance issues.Monitored and supported implementation, execution and performance of non-compliance life safety and fire protection rectification projects

The major part of IKEA’s strategy in Russia is to build and manage traditional IKEA retail stores and MEGA shopping centres, with sizes from 1400,000 - 300,000 m².The scopes of work were to develop and maintain safety management and loss prevention. The focus was to ensure that all operations have an adequate and reliable level of life safety and fire protection. The work also included an active role in advising and reviewing the process associated in the establishment of new IKEA retail stores and MEGA shopping centres. Responsible for all technical issues related to operational insurance. Research, develop and on occasion oversee implementation of safety guidelines. Review and assess emergency management and continuity guidelines and instructions.Furthermore, the role included to act as IKEA Global expert support in regards of life safety and fire protection.

As Risk Engineer I had technical and management customer responsibility in the organization, to include conducting risk assessments and providing risk reducing advice to customers. The risk assessments included normal- maximum expected Loss estimates. The focus for risk reduction was safety systems, management and education. My geographical work area was Sweden, Russia, Denmark, and on occasion, the rest of the world.
