Hired directly by the Owner for this newly created position tasked with establishing monthly operating budgets for all of the company's business divisions including developing a model for cross divisional corporate allocations to provide fully costed financials.Also responsible for implementing monthly financial reporting designed to keep Division Heads informed of actual performance compared to planned objectives with an eye towards developing a company wide discipline of cost control within budgeted parameters.Provide business management and analytic support across all company divisions assisting with both day to day operations as well as ad hoc special projects and potential new acquisition due diligence.Support the CFO and his Accounting Group as needed with the monthly/year end close and serve as backup for the HR Manager for payroll processing, certified payrolls and job costing.

Led a staff of 6 in all aspects of financial planning, monthly/quarterly reporting to the Board/internal management and insightful analysis focused on recommendations to support strategic decisions with a constant eye on cost control and cash management.

Led a staff of 40 in all aspects of finance, accounting, treasury, A/P, payroll and business planning/analysis for more than 35 book clubs including Doubleday Book Club, Literary Guild and Book of the Month Club.

Directed a staff of 14 with overall management responsibility for providing financial guidance to Senior Management by preparing annual budgets and forecasts, financial reporting and KPI's, quantitative analyses and evaluations of financial performance and designing new financial reporting systems.

Following the acquisition of Doubleday by Bertelsmann AG in 1986, worked closely with the new management team to assist in the smooth transition of the Doubleday business within the global portfolio of Bertelsmann. Traveled extensively to Europe working with other Bertelsmann financial managers to exchange ideas, business models and processes to establish unified best practices. Routinely interacted with Bertelsmann management on monthly results, budget/forecast planning and ongoing business developments.

During my tenure with Doubleday I held numerous positions of increasing responsibility within the Finance area focused on financial analysis, budget/forecast planning and financial reporting.

Coordinated the sale and inventory disposition of Bendix aircraft and automotive products to global businesses.

Researched industry trends and competitors, compiled statistical charts and graphs, and wrote management reports which were published, copyrighted and sold internationally as Industry Market Studies to companies competing for global market share within their industry.
