About Robert Hackett

With my roles as CEO, Managing Director, Chairman and Non-executive Director I am focused on; - identifying the practical strategic path forward; - putting in place, or guiding management to put in place, the framework for delivery of that strategy; and- ensuring that simple and practical accountability systems are in place. A key requirement for success is moving the process forward with those managers who will become the company's leaders in the years ahead: # My experience is that focus, persistence, collaboration, an outcomes based accountability system are the core aspects of building the path to safely delivering success. # My experience is also that the majority of committed senior managers often have "in their heads" most elements of the solutions to their departments/business units problems or the strategic direction required - the issue for the CEO/Board is working with those managers to draw out, challenge and help the manager refine those solutions.

Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer

Century Drilling Limited

Century is a leading land based oil, gas and geothermal drilling company in the medium to heavy drilling sectors of South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand. At my commencement 3 of 4 operating division in 5 countries were unprofitable. My appointment was with the specific objective of “turning-around” the business, put in place a refreshed management team, determining and implementing the strategy for the business. Further, despite the high risk nature of the business, it had no functioning HS+E system and an entrenched culture of HSE (and operational) risk acceptance. The leadership team (CEO, COO, CFO, HSE Manager, Department and Business Unit Managers) delivered performance improvement through:• Financial discipline - new systems• Introduction of clear reporting systems with accountability down the “line”.• Disposal of non-core businesses.• Setting the strategic focus of the business; refocus away from Australia towards New Zealand, India, Philippines; changing Indonesia from a “geothermal” business to an “oil and gas” business. • Rationalising and modernising the operating assets creating a more focussed modern and marketable fleet.• Leading the marketplace to higher price structures (on the back of higher quality and safer service).• Leading the market on HSE thereby matching, ahead of competitors, clients evolving expectations/corporate requirements• Creating a functioning HSE Department, systems, training programs, promoted operational staff with a strong HSE focus, termination of those managers lacking the right attitudes for the future direction of the business. Results: significant progressive reduction in severity and number of incidents.• Driving-out key competitors in Indonesia and New Zealand• The improved profitability, modernized management systems (in particular financial discipline) and a client base now comprising of Exxon, Chevron, Contact Energy and similar. I acted as “marriage broker” for the sale of Century to MB Petroleum.
