Many technological changes will effect buying habits for cars, insurance rates, safety, financing and a very important part of it is metadata equipment and using quality OE parts.

Beginning September 7, 1996 we began a transition to a General Parts Inc. company store. The store grew due to a team effort of wholesale and retail sales and machine shop sales and service. In April of 1997 I became outside salesman for the store. My primary job was calling on existing customers, prospecting, helping in the machine shop and selling parts to wholesale and retail customers.

Our store was started in 1971 and bought from many warehouses to service the cars and trucks from the 1970s thru 1990s. To accommodate a growing market we started an automotive machine shop to service cylinder heads and blocks. Having a technical background we developed a local market learning about customer needs, selling the job, assembling the needed parts, and making sure all machining was done correctly, and lastly assist the customer in any related parts or technical information they might need. As an independent owner we attended many Distribution Center meetings to stay abreast of product changes, private label products, and any other management tools.Beginning in 1988 we changed to a computerized point of sale computer that increased productivity, efficiency, and profitability, And in 1993 after much planning and searching found a really good machinist and machine shop labor and parts reached around a yearly $225,000.The automotive business was changing and by 1995 our local CARQUEST warehouse sold to General Parts Inc.In September of 1996 we sold the parts store and machine shop. The technical materials we developed were for hydraulic and air brakes, individual technical brake bulletins, NAPA Understanding Automotive Brake Systems manual, and Audio-Visual presentations used by all NAPA and special markets. Lastly my job included travel and working with field management to train outside salesmen and their customers. Also worked with industry experts developing training in new products, selling skills, and helped to start the ATMC (Automotive Training Managers Council). In my job at McHenry I worked closely with the NAPA United Sales Manager, Marketing Manager, General Manager, Plant Manager, Engineering Staff, Quality Control, Catalog Manager, and Special Markets.
