I have 20 years of in-house counsel experience with various primary and reinsurance companies culminating with my position as General Counsel and Senior VP of what is now known as Munich Re America. Subsequent to my in-house experience, I was a partner at DLA Piper in their insurance and reinsurance practice group. Thereafter, I developed a solo practice as an arbitrator, mediator, expert witness and consultant with respect to insurance and reinsurance matters.I have been appointed to over 200 arbirtration panels dealing with a wide variety of property and casualty, surety and Accident and Health matters. In addition, I have served as an expert witness in federal and state courts and in arbitrations on such topics as follow the settlements, utmost good faith and contract construction. I have published over 100 articles dealing with a variety of insurance, reinsurance, receivership and arbitation topics and they are contained in my website. I have acted as an expert witness over 38 time in federal and state courts and in confidential arbitrations. Topics of my testimony have included a number of insurance, reinsurance and receivership-related issues including contractual interpretation, utmost good faith and follow the settlements, setoff, fronting, reinsurance collateral, captive insurers and reinsurers, expenses in addition to limits, agents v. brokers and more.I recently acted as a guest lecturer at a University of Connecticut Law School course on insurance and reinsurance.At this point in my career, by goals are: (1) to make reinsurance arbitrations a faster, cheaper and better means of dispute resolution than litigation; and (2) help explain the reinsurance marketplace and its principles to judges and juries as an expert witness.Specialties: Transactional, contractual, regulatory and receivership matters within the context of property and casual insurance and reinsurance.
