About Robert Hampson
Robert Hampson FEA, FRSA is the author of 5 monographs; co-editor of 10 collections of essays; editor of 13 editions; contributor of over 70 chapters in books, over 30 articles in refereed journals, and over 40 other articles; and is widely published as a poet in magazines and as the author of over a dozen pamphlets and books of poetry. He was Professor of Modern Literature in the English Department at Royal Holloway, University of London. He was Head of Department (2002-09) and a member of College Council (1997-2000). He was a Research Fellow at the University of London Institute for English Studies (2019-22) and Visiting Professor at Northumbria University (2019-23.) He is currently Professor Emeritus at Royal Holloway, University of London. He is the author of four monographs on Joseph Conrad and both a former editor of The Conradian (1989-96) and the current co-editor. He is also on the Editorial Board of Conradiana (USA) and Chair of the Joseph Conrad Society (UK). His most recent publications on Conrad are the critical biography Joseph Conrad (Reaktion Books, 2021) and the co-edited volume, The European Reception of Joseph Conrad (Bloomsbury, 2022). He has edited Lord Jim, Heart of Darkness, and Victory for Penguin, as well as works by Kipling and Rider Haggard. He has also co-edited books on Ford Madox Ford, Frank O'Hara and The New British poetries. He has successfully supervised over 50 PhD students and examined over 100 PhDs. He co-edited the poetry magazine Alembic during the 1970s. His collection Reworked Disasters (2013) was long-listed for the Forward Poetry Prize of that year, and he has acted as a judge for the English Association Poetry Prize and the Michael Marks Awards for Poetry Pamphlets. His most recent collection is Covodes 1-19 (Artery Editions, 2022).He was a panel member for the RAE and the REF in the UK and also for the Romanian RAE and the Hong Kong RAE. He has subsequently acted as a REF consultant for various universities. He has a particular interest in practice-as-research / practice-based research and the creative-critical: he is a founder member of PRAG (UK) - the Practice Research Advisory Group - and edits the Poetics section of the creative-critical blog.
