About Robert Hansen
As Research Director, I managed secretariats that support committees appointed by the Queensland Parliament to conduct policy and legislation inquiries. Over the past twenty years, I have directed more than 80 parliamentary inquiries. As a senior parliamentary officer, I also serve as a Clerk-at-the-Table of the Queensland Parliament when it sits.My other passion is parliamentary strengthening and capacity building. Since 2007, I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to work side by side with members and staff of the Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea National Parliaments. I have conducted reviews and provided advice to strengthen these institutions and delivered training workshops to develop the skills of their members and staff. Over these five years, I directed 35 inquiries covering portfolio legislation, budget estimates, renewable energy and energy efficiency topics.
Research Director (Travelsafe Committees)
For 15 years, I ran policy inquiries for parliamentary committees (called Travelsafe Committees) to improve road safety and public transport in Queensland. This work helped to make Queensland a leader in road safety in Australia through reforms covering speed enforcement, fatigue driving, drug and drink driving, rural road safety, international visitor crash risks, cycling and pedestrian safety, driver and motorcyclist training and driver licensing. Work on public transport included two inquiries into safety and security on the Citytrain passenger rail network.These inquiries also helped to forge important links between community groups, researchers and practitioners in Queensland to develop effective policies - links that remain in place today.
