Department Head And Associate Professor Of Political Science / Director Of International Studies
As the Head of the Department of Political Science, I supervised a 17-person doctoral-level department offering courses in political science, public administration, legal assistant studies, and organizational leadership. I was a member of the Graduate School faculty, the School of Arts & Sciences Executive Council, and the University's Council of Department Heads. Among my main responsibilities were:1) schedule courses each semester for the department;2 ) manage and dispense the departmental budget3) evaluate faculty for tenure and promotion, hiring, preparing contracts, and evaluating adjunct instructors for courses in political science;4) supervise office staff, graduate student assistants, and undergraduate student workers.5) serve as a member of the Graduate School faculty as well as on the A&S Dean's Executive Council and the University Executive Council.6) teach advanced courses in International Relations and Comparative PoliticsIn addition, I reinstated the VSU chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the honor society for political science in Fall 2015. I teach advanced courses in Latin American politics, American foreign policy, international relations, and comparative politics. Associate Professor And Chair Of Political Science / Director Of International Studies
I was an Associate Professor of Political Science and taught courses in international relations and comparative politics, with specializations in Latin American studies, international security, and comparative development. I also directed the interdisciplinary undergraduate degree program in international studies. From 2011-2014, I served a term as Chair of the Department of Political Science. I also served as the college's Director of Study Abroad from 2008 to 2013 (until program was discontinued for budgetary reasons).My fourth book, Space Policy in Developing Countries: The Search for Security and Development on the Final Frontier, was published by Routledge in June 2013. I have taught and led study abroad courses to Costa Rica (2009) and Cuba (2012). I have served as a consultant to the British Academy and presented to the European Space Institute, and I have been a referee for a number of academic publishers and journals, including Perseus/Westview Press, Oxford University Press, Space Policy, International Security, and International Studies Perspectives.
