  • Frontiers
    Journal Launch Specialist
    Frontiers Jan 2022 - Mar 2024
    Remote
In my role as a Journal Launch Specialist, I have launched five journals; Frontiers in Imaging, Frontiers in Fuels, Frontiers in Batteries and Electrochemistry, Frontiers in Industrial Engineering and Frontiers in Detector Science and Technology. To achieve this, I have had to use my project management skills as this often meant working on multiple journals simultaneously and handling many deadlines and correspondence. A large part of my role involves recruiting the journal editorial board from Editor-in-Chief to reviewers using my strong stakeholder engagement skills. I use email and video calls to collaborate with key opinion leading academics to identify and discuss subject areas for new journal opportunities which demonstrates my oral and written communication skills. I was selected by the Launch Portfolio Manager to design and implement training on how to commission articles for new journals. This included writing standard operating procedures, giving presentations and creating interactive workshops for the entire launch team. This demonstrates strong organisational skills and an ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. As my role is remote working, completing these training materials also demonstrates my ability to work with minimal supervision and be responsible for my own workload. I am used to working across diverse and multidisciplinary teams as when launching a journal, I work with various teams across the company. I have experience using Microsoft packages and have learnt to use bespoke in-house IT systems at Frontiers showing I am able to pick up new software packages quickly.
  • University Of Birmingham
    Research Fellow
University Of Birmingham Apr 2017 - Sep 2021
    Birmingham, United Kingdom
The aim of this project was to fully characterise the physicochemical property changes at each hierarchical structure level within sectioned dental hard tissues during demineralisation progression. This included the development of novel time-lapse imaging methods for in situ demineralisation experiments using polarised light microscopy and micro computed tomography equipment. This work was orally presented at the Biomin XV: 15th International Symposium on Biomineralization in Munich, Germany in September 2019. The project included collaborating closely with a number of colleagues at the University of Oxford and the University of Surrey, which required a high level of organisation. A major part of the project involved being granted time at the Diamond Light Source synchrotron to use innovative technology to generate ground-breaking science. This included taking the initiative in preparing research proposals, liaising with our academic collaborators and beamline scientists for experiment feasibility and expected outcome discussions. I was awarded time for several of these research proposals of which I both led and was a co-investigator. Experiments that were undertaken at Diamond included probing how enamel crystal structure evolved under acidic conditions i.e. size, shape, orientation and chemical mapping observed using a variety of X-ray techniques.
