Advanced level public service worker within the Chemistry Library, responsible for problem solving and coordination of processing material and records. Organization of Chemistry Library; working closely with faculty in developing services needed for the department; carrying out simple circulation; acquisitions, and limited reference functions; hiring/scheduling and directing the work of student employees; handling correspondence and maintaining files; directing the preparation of materials for binding; and ordering supplies and equipment.

The primary role of the Van Pelt Circulation LSA is to support circulation of and access to materials by library patrons. This involves working with the relevant components of The Libraries’ computerized systems, manning service desks, interacting with patrons, supervising student workers, maintaining appropriate records and files and interpreting and enforcing library policies.

The primary responsibility of this position is to shelve or otherwise store, maintain the order of, and participate in planned shifts of library materials in accordance with the appropriate classification system or other method of organization, depending on the material. Other responsibilities includes but not limited to:Assist patrons by providing directional and procedural information, locating materials as requested, and resolving routine circulation problems. Refer unresolved issues to supervisor as appropriate, and communicate needs or areas of user concern to supervisor. In emergencies, assist with protecting and / or rescuing library materials from damaging situations.Report to supervisor any security and discipline problems in assigned stack area. At closing of library, clear stacks of people and secure assigned areas.Prepare and process materials for binding.Perform tasks related to circulation of library materials.Perform routine and supervised data entry, editing, verification pertaining to patron records and / or to the acquisition and receipt of library materials.Process library materials in a variety of languages and formats under supervision and using provided bibliographic information.Perform packing, unpacking, delivery, receipt and tracking of library materials.

As Recording Secretary, I keep a record of the proceedings of all meetings of the Council Executive Board and the Delegate Assembly and certify the official roll. As Chair the Communications Committee, I suggest policies and provide guidance for the effective preparation and dissemination of various informational materials and news releases, electronically and in print, both internally and externally, to better inform the membership and to promote the public image of the municipal employee as a respected and responsible individual.
