I have been working full time in this role for 6 years. Outline of Role: Working in a busy planning department as part of the major applications team with a focus on the delivery of strategic sites. Key Responsibilities: - Consideration and negotiation of major planning applications (including EIA development)- Preparation of legally sound committee reports and conditions- Complex S106 negotiations (commonly involving affordable housing, schools, infrastructure contributions and provision/management of open space)- Consultation and negotiation with statutory consultees such as Environment Agency, Sport England etc.- Preparation of Development Briefs (Supplementary Planning Documents)- Pre-application negotiations - Providing consultation responses on draft policy documents- Presenting to Planning Committee, often in the face of significant public opposition - Preparation and implementation of Planning Performance Agreements (PPAs)- Liaising and working with internal and external clients and contractors.- Preparing appeal statements and giving professional evidence at public inquiries, Hearings and Written Reps appeals.Key Achievements: - Delivering key residential, retail and mixed use planning permissions on a number of the Council’s key strategic sites including:o A residential led scheme for 550 residential units, 1.6ha of employment land, community facilities and a 17ha public park.o A residential led scheme for 1000 units, a 1-form entry school, extra-care housing, circa 5000 sqm of retail, commercial and community/leisure uses and a 38ha country park.o A 13,000 sqm mixed use warehouse club.- Delivering Development Briefs, in collaboration with developer teams, on a number of the Council’s key strategic sites, in the face of significant public, consultee and political opposition.
