Kosrae International Airport is located in the North Pacific just above the equator, west of the Marshall Islands. Kosrae is one of the 4 islands that make up the Federated States of Micronesia. The project was a runway overlay, perimeter access road, widening the ends of the runway for aircraft turn-a-rounds, and reworking the apron area. The contract was very unique in that all material and equipment had to be shipped onto the island. That is including the asphalt plant and all of the aggregate to make the asphalt. All of the contractor’s work force also has to be relocated to the island as there are no qualified personnel on the island to perform most of the work. Show less
