Appointed to this volunteer position to help reorganize and revitalize services provided to emergency responders and the community in times of emergency or disaster. We provide leadership and direction to volunteers that staff and operate a mobile emergency response vehicle equipped with full mass cooking, cooling, and meal preparation facilities. Respond to fires, floods, hurricanes, hazardous materials incidents and other emergency /disaster incidents to provide rehab support such as food, beverages, support and comfort to emergency responders and victims. Assure vehicle and supplies are in a state of readiness, train and recruit volunteers, solicit in kind and monetary donations, interface and interact with local police, fire departments, EMS organizations, emergency managers, and Salvation Army divisions to prepare for and respond to events as requested. Advise local Salvation Army commanders and staff on matters involving emergency and disaster response, planning, and recovery.

This seasonal position entailed supervision and management of the New London Corps annual Red Kettle Fund Raising Drive. The position entailed training, scheduling, and supervising seasonal workers that were deployed throughout the New London area to greet customers and the public entering or passing by local businesses and secure donations in collection kettles. Arranged and provided worker transportation to and from assigned locations, prepared daily schedule and assignment sheets, dealt with inquiry's and complaints from the public and business management. Recruited, worked with, and provided supervision for volunteer accounting team that counted and logged daily donations. Conducted bank deposits and transactions as required along with tracking program goals and progress. Work was performed in conjunction with and supervised by the New London Corps Commanding Officer.

Responded to emergency and routine calls for sick and injured individuals. Provided standby and rehab for fires, hazardous materials incidents, routine, and other emergency incidents. Provided basic level emergency medical care and assist paramedics to provide advanced emergency medical care. Operated Type II and Type III ambulances on routine and emergency calls in all types of weather. Created and submited reports and other related forms both on paper and in computer form. Performed stocking and basic maintenance of ambulances. Received supervisor accommodation for service provided during an extremely busy shift.

Responsible for management, staffing, budget, and operation of the towns 9-1-1 emergency communications center and the Emergency Operation Center (EOC). Coordinated administrative operations of the town’s fire, police, EMS, and public safety agencies. Served as Training Chairman for the Tri-Town SARA Title III Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) coordinating several large scale multi-agency drills. Was responsible for supervising and coordinating emergency preparedness planning, training, response, and recovery for the town. This included volunteer and paid personnel management along with program budgeting. Had responsibility for revision and development of emergency and disaster plans for the town. Planning and response duties included hazards from a nuclear power plant, hazardous materials, natural disasters such as hurricanes and floods, and national / local security threats. Planned and conducted large scale emergency response drills and exercises with local, state, federal, military, business and industry, and private agency representatives. Recommended corrective measures to supervisors and employees that eliminate / reduce mishaps, prevent or minimize damage and injuries. Served as the base respiratory protection manager. Conducted training and presented educational programs on work, home, and recreational safety. Issued safety equipment (PPE) based on work hazards. Maintained professional contact with military, civilian, and contractor personnel. Assisted with preparation of safety requirements for the procurement of services, equipment, materials, and supplies. Investigated accidents and near accidents to recommend corrective measures to eliminate / reduce mishap causes. Assisted with emergency drills and exercises to promote readiness and safety. Provided guidance, recommendations, and assistance to supervisors and employees concerning established safety methods and techniques. Planned, organized, coordinated, directed, evaluated and managed a comprehensive safety and occupational health program. Planned and scheduled periodic surveys of installation facilities and provided advice and guidance to managers. Recommended specific techniques, methods, and procedures to eliminate or control unsafe acts or conditions identified in surveys/inspections or through a mishap information system. Developed and prepared local safety and occupational health directives and regulations through adaptation of higher command instructions and policies formulated by other Federal Government agencies and prepared written procedures for implementation of safety prevention activities. Monitored situations that may cause a personal health hazard or environmental concern. This included all hazardous materials/wastes such as oil spills from ships, battery acids, caustics, paints and other unhealthy conditions. Served as base Fire Inspector and Firefighter prior to this promotion.
