Rob was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1990. He then practiced with a firm serving unions. In 1992, he joined the Legal Department of the Canadian National Office of the United Steelworkers. In 2013, he became Canadian Counsel and head of the Legal Department. He supervised a department of six lawyers and instructed counsel at numerous firms working in all jurisdictions across Canada. In 2022, Rob retired from the Steelworkers and joined Ryder, Wright, Holmes, Bryden and Nam LLP as counsel to the firm.Rob has provided legal and strategic advice to union officers, staff and members across the country regarding virtually all of the legal issues that arise in the life of a union, including grievance arbitration, statutory rights, insolvency proceedings, Charter challenges and a wide range of civil matters. Rob has appeared before grievance arbitration panels, labour relations boards and other statutory tribunals across Canada, all levels of court in Ontario, and some courts in other jurisdictions.
