After earning a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of California at Berkeley, I had a career in university teaching, banking, business and government service. I began my career by teaching at UCLA and the University of Hawaii. Subsequently, I became Chief of the Financial Studies Division of the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C.After that, I worked as a Senior Vice President and Director of International Economic Policy Research at Bank of America in San Francisco.President Reagan appointed me as a Governor of the Federal Reserve System. Returning to the private sector, I served as Executive Vice President of VISA International and as President and CEO of VISA U.S.A.I finished my career as a member of the Board of Directors and Executive Vice President of the Fair Isaac Corporation. Currently, I serve on several public and private boards.In addition to several textbooks and numerous articles, I have recently published my autobiography under the title "The Unlikely Governor".
