Gamut was a electronic marketing startup. Our engineers devloped a handheld device that "zapped" digital signals embedded in TV and cable commercials. The primary use was for manufacturer coupons which the consumer would load onto their Gamut device and take it with them to a participating grocery store where the electronic coupons would be redeemed automatically at the point of sale.Mr. Hemphill's responsibilities included the design and develolpment of the electronic coupon functionality and integration with POS systems. He was also theakey executive in retailer marketing involvement and rollout.Gamut failed to obtain second round financing and closed operations in 2000.

As a founding employee of Catalina Electronic Clearing Services (CECS), Mr. Hemphill was responsible for integrating new scanner technology developed to readk the extended barcodes needed for scanning and clearing paper coupons via retail point-of-sale. He was also responsible for systems to integrated the coupons data with the Catalina in-store systems as well as the back end systems for electronic coupons clearing and billing.CECS closed operations in 1997.

Mr. Hemphill was responsible for all systems and technology for Randall's, the leading retailer in the greater Houston and Dallas marketplaces.

American Superstores, a regional holding company of American Stores, Inc., included three major regional supermarket chains and a drug retailer, with over $7 billion in annual sales. Mr. Hemphill had coprporate responsibility for all corporate and store systems at the retailer organizations, with over 450 employees in his areas of responsibility.

Mr. Hemphill was a Data Systems consultant in the retail industry, and was responsible for numerous consulting engagements with a variety of retailer clients.
