Director Livewire Labs
At Harley-Davidson/LiveWire, I was leading • the powertrain development teams (hardware and software), • the functional safety team • the system integration and validation team• and the lab technicians team.I transitioned the company to an agile program management and execution methodology and introduced the respective tool landscape such as JIRA, Confluence and Helix ALM.I architected and drove the developed of the fully vertical integrated and fail safe electric powertrain including • Battery Monitoring System (BMS)• 5kW On-board Charger (OBC)• 100kW Drive Inverter and • 400W DCDC Converter (400V/12V).All components were designed from an idea to mass production in 3.5 years.In my responsibility for Functional Safety, I architected the safety concept for the powertrain to achieve ASIL D compliancy and created DFMEAs (HW/SW) among other artifacts.Additionally, I architected the vehicle Firmware Over the Air Update (FOTA) capability and the Wake Sleep Functionality (Network Management).I was leading the lab which contained all necessary equipment to develop and validate a full powertrain including cell tester, motor dyno, chassis dyno to name a few.Two electric motorcycles, Del Mar and Mulholland, contain the in-house developed Powertrain and are released to the market.

• I recruited 42 engineers in two years covering SW and HW development as well as mechanical design.• Architected and built all powertrain components in-house for a fail operational, torque vectoring capable, 800V chargeable powertrain including - a 220kW, 360Nm, 80kg dual motor drive unit with planetary gearboxes (HW, SW, MD) - an 107kWh, 21700 cell technology, 800V/400V chargeable, fail operational battery (HW, SW, MD) - an 800V/400V 3,5kW DCDC converter (HW, SW, MD) - a Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) with closed loop torque vectoring and thermal control (HW, SW, MD) - an 800V Charge Port• Introduced next generation technologies such as Ethernet Communication, Silicon Carbide Inverter, Planetary Gearbox, 21700 cell based HV Battery, 800V/400V charging capability, torque vectoring, full fail operational architecture for autonomous drive applications.• Led the development, build and test of a mule vehicle which integrates and demonstrates all powertrain components mentioned above.• Built a 240kW motor dyno.
