About Robert Hindmarsh
I was born in New Zealand but have spent most of my life in the North East of England. I have vast experience within the Higher Education sector, specialising in Finance across a variety of roles since graduating from University. I have always enjoyed the technical side to these roles and I am very proficient in software such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerBI. I have experience of publishing high level reports that have been published to key stakeholders and to the wider public.My interest and skills in the technical side of these roles has led me to consider a career change long term and I am currently retraining in Cyber Security by studying a part time degree at the Open University.Outside of work my main passion is music and I have been playing the guitar since I was around 12 years old. I have a lot of experience performing and recording as a musician and I have travelled all over the UK, central Europe and Scandinavia as a musician. I also have a big interest in music production and have recently gained some small experience as a sound engineer.

Senior Financial Support Assistant
CurrentI am responsible for processing all of the central UK scholarships and bursaries. This involves programming the awards in the Student Loans Company (SLC) system and assessing and awarding to all eligible students. To do this I run several reports across several different systems and use both SAP at the University and the Student Loan Bursary Administration Portal.I am also responsible for our biggest central Postgraduate Scholarship and work with other departments to confirm budgets and publish and advertise on our website. I am then solely responsible for processing all applications, paying students and reporting.I also produce interactive reports using Microsoft PowerBI.

Credit Controller
After my secondment ended I returned to the accounts receivable department and was offered a promotion, which brought new responsibilities. The main additional responsibilities were that I now had to process the invoices for all students within the Faculty of Business and Law. I did this by creating fee profiles in SITS and I would then use these profiles to bill all students via their course codes which would then be published into SAP. In addition to this I was responsible for line managing our agency staff who assisted us during the busiest periods of the academic year. This mainly involved delegating and assigning workloads.

This was a secondment position in which I undertook many duties including posting journals via SAP, reconciliations, accruals and prepayments, uploading budgets and forecasts into SAP, assessing and approving research proposals for financial purposes, preparing and publishing KPI reports and preparing and publishing the Financial Management Report (that was sent to all key stakeholders and then published to the bank).This role is where I developed the majority of my skills in Microsoft Excel and became proficient in skills such as macros, pivot tables, vlookups, power pivots and index matching.

I had a number of responsibilities in the accounts receivable department, mainly the collection of income for the Faculty of Business and Law. This included negotiating payments with students to ensure that tuition fees were paid in-line with regulations and helping students with their Student Loans for the majority of undergraduates. In addition to this I was responsible for processing refunds via SAP and took part in a rota on the cash desk in which I took payments and assisted students with any money related enquiries.
