Assisting in the running of an experimental laboratory with specific responsibility, amongst other duties, in Wren’s screening platform and assays and the alpha-synuclein programme. Conducting drug discovery research projects, together with other members of the team, and contributing to the development and application of new methodologies.

Development and leading of the alpha-synuclein programme including optimising a multi assay kinetics screening cascade for small molecule inhibition of aggregation of alpha-synuclein, the potential cause of Parkinson's Disease; assisting with the amyloid beta programme as well as the Tau, IAPP and TDP programmes (linked to Alzheimer's Disease in the former two cases, and diabetes and ALS respectively in the latter two cases).

Performing protein purification and optimising chemical screening kinetics on amyloid beta and tau proteins; testing the effect of compounds on the aggregation kinetics of the two proteins.

Analysis of metabolites from the degradation of lignin samples by a Rhodoccocus jostii mutant via liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry.

I joined Professor Bugg’s research group in 2015. My first project was to test the possibility of a Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) assay of antibiotic binding to target molecules. I was tasked with carrying out the synthesis of fluorescently labelled antibiotic derivatives and analysing the effects of combination of these derivatives with fluorescently labelled targets.
