Here, I diagnosed up to 40 surgical cases, i.e., a combination of skin, GI, GU (prostate/bladder), GYN cases, lung or liver biopsies, 1-2 FNA's (thyroid and salivary gland) and around 3 non-gyn cytologies (urine and bladder washes). I also assessed ≈ 20 pap smears per daily sign-out.► Influenced colonoscopists to submit one polyp per container to increase billable 88305's. ► Instituted a quality management program with Peterson Regional Medical Center, which monitored parameters such as troponin turn-around times from ER cases, blood utilization metrics, and point of care testing quality control monitors. ► Performed rapid on-site evaluations for fine needle aspiration and core biopsies.► Selected to join the Credentials Committee for Peterson Regional Medical Center: Assessed files of physicians requesting or renewing privileges in the surgical subspecialties.► Contributed to cutting-edge resources using latest medical technologies and procedures, including surgical pathology, cytopathology performance and interpretation, FISH interpretation, medical microscopy including urine/CSF/body fluid analysis, peripheral blood smear reviews, laboratory medicine including blood banking/immunohematology.► Masterfully utilized tools, i.e., light microscope and laboratory information systems.
At this time, I assessed cases and reviewed diagnostic discrepancies with pathologists in sub-specialties, including cytopathology, GI/liver/pancreas, skin, bone/soft tissue, lung, brain, head and neck, GU, and GYN. I also took on increasing levels of responsibility in pathology.I earned status as Chief of AP: Monitored and updated statistics for the QA program, including turn-around times for surgical and cytology cases, number of amended cases, diagnostic discrepancies, and percentage of cases receiving QC review by a second pathologist. ► Promoted to Chief of Anatomic Pathology Division to lead 100 soldier and civilian histotechnologists, medical transcriptionists, cytotechnologists, and pathologist assistants.► Collaborated with staff to repeatedly pass CAP inspection with zero deficiencies. ► Awarded an Outstanding Faculty Teacher for the 2013-2014 academic year.► Earned an Army Achievement Award with Oak Leaf Cluster for top board performance.► Honored with an Army Commendation Medal for soldier board performance at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research for two consecutive years in a row.► Oversaw process implementation while integrating Air Force pathologists from Wilford Hall Medical Center. Played a key role in growing team from 9,000 cases/year to over 20,000 and facilitating the onboarding of more than 15 pathologists within less than a year. ►Founded the Case Review Conference to compare frozen and permanent sections.
► Instructed residents on histopathology and cytopathology at weekly case conferences► Lectured to residents on cytopathology topics, i.e., bone and soft tissue fine needle.► Presented 1-2 hour lectures in Gyn and Non-gyn cytology to METC cytotechnology students.► Taught rotating Gynecology interns basic Gyn cytology.► Conducted Cytopathology and Pathology Resident Rotations► Rapidly advanced in status from Pathology Intern
