I reviewed primary canvassing work done previously by other employees for accuracy and completeness. This position required up to 100 miles of daily travel and direct contact with the public, as well as mastery of a hand-held computer. Assignment finished three weeks earlier than expected due to rapid work rate.

Monitored incoming communications from clients at a Unemployment Compensation call center and assisted clients with concerns and problems. Was responsible for releasing payments to clients when situations called for such action.

Aided in unloading merchandise from trucks and preparing it for the sales floor, including sorting clothing into correct departments and the application of security tags.

Covered high school sports, including district championship games in football and girls' volleyball.

As a reporter, I was responsible for monitoring and reporting on the activities of the government and school boards of Frederick and Clarke counties, including covering meetings and making calls to follow up on trends and leads. Also worked closely with other county government agencies such as planning, zoning, and elections bureaus.

While writing full-time for newspapers, I also used this time to pursue freelance articles for regional and national print and online publications. These included sports columns, as well as stories about television's Mystery Science Theater 3000, outgoing Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge, Christian rock band Apologetix and the Chippendales dance troupe.

As the newspaper's police and courts reporter, I was responsible for gathering information on police activities and court cases. Once this information was gathered, I would prioritize this information and determine which cases required greater coverage. These cases included drug cases, child abuse cases, murder cases, and other criminal cases. Also responsible for primary photography for my stories.

As the newspaper's first-ever political reporter, I was responsible for monitoring legislative activity of the Pennsylvania State Legislature and U.S. Congress, along with the activities of all state and federal agencies, the White House and the Governor's Office. This included daily communication with twelve state representatives, three state senators (including the state President Pro Tem and temporary Lt. As head reporter, I was reponsible for not only my own beat, which included central Bradford County, but for monitoring the daily activity of four other reporters in order to help maintain the newspaper's daily news budget.Award won: Times-Shamrock Top Performers Club

Wrote weekly editorials in addition to my beat, which included the newspaper's home base of Monessen and the area's top educational beat, California University of Pennsylvania.

Covered news and sports for several area newspapers, including a two-year period as the chief correspondent for the Mid Mon Valley region for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and a year as a sports columnist for the Greensburg Tribune-Review's Fay-West edition under the guidance of Paul Heyworth.
