About Robert Jensen

25+ years of adhesive bonding of plastics, metals, ceramics, and composites for severe environmental and mechanical loading conditions by correlating fundamental surface science and polymer physics to defined performance metrics. Currently leading efforts to transition experimental efforts to digital data management, informatics, and statistical analytics to streamline efficiency in carrying basic research and development to product delivery.I'm a firm believer that defining DOD tech drivers in terms of commercially relevant performance standards, with high non-DOD profit potential, decreases transition time and increases DOD access to sustainable commercial product with leading state-of-the-art properties. I'm interested in working with trusted capital investors as a way to achieve this objective, although this represents the least culturally familiar path forward for DOD.

Find solutions to difficult adhesive bonding issues in lightweight composite armor for enhanced protection and multi-hit ballistic damage tolerance requirements. Team applies strong academic foundations and experimental know-how, from benchtop to test range, in polymer chemistry, polymer physics, polymer processing, surface chemistry, composite processing, and composite mechanics.Diverse team experience also includes formulating and producing elastomeric components, surface modification via atmospheric plasma, synthesis of surface selective hyperbranched polymers, and development of polymeric phase change materials. Team mentored 20 undergraduate interns, 10 graduate students, and 2 post-docs during my tenure as lead.Latest efforts are leveraging Data Science to generate, manage, and analyze large quantities of complex and multivariate data to provide statistical linkages between fundamental material properties and end-user requirements.
  • U.S. Army Devcom Army Research Laboratory
    Postdoctoral Researcher
    U.S. Army Devcom Army Research Laboratory 1999 - 2001
    Adelphi, Md, Us
Synthesized, characterized, and commercially piloted a composite fiber sizing designed to yield increased frictional energy dissipation through fiber-matrix pullout during ballistic events experienced by lightweight armor.
