The point of care coordinator is a representative of the laboratory to the rest of the healthcare profession. I applied the very same principles used by the main laboratory into our vast array of poc devices. Then, I translated them for the leaders of each healthcare profession so the hospital can be in compliance with strict regulatory bodies. As a point of care coordinator , collaborative internal/external departmental partnerships and mutual understanding are keys to a successful program. NYP Queens provided that environment.

As one of the first hospitals to implement the Sysmex -XN 2000, New York Presbyterian Queens Hematology Department started the New York metro area’s revolutionary shift to this robust analyzer and slide maker/reader which has helped providers in their diagnoses and treatments . Being a core laboratory, the facility receives a mixture of samples that gives laboratory scientists a breadth of knowledge and experience. Specialized in preparing and identifying various types of cells from different bodily fluids. Regularly submitted QC data for peer group review. Multi-tasking is a must , as all three areas of Coagulation, Urinalysis and Hematology may be covered at the same time.

Northwell Forest HIlls Hospital a division of Long Island Jewish Medical CenterOperated as a complete generalist(blood bank, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, and limited microbiology) with minimal supervision during the night shift in a busy rapid response laboratory. Resolved antibody challenges in the blood bank and competed against time to release blood products in a safe manner. High level of multi-tasking required due to maximum capacity ER during nights and morning rounds. Performed manual differentials, manual urine microscopy, and manual dilutions. Skilled in prioritizing in order to fulfill turnaround times while operating multiple benches. Moreover, accessioning duties and resolving issues over the phone with courtesy required.

Assigned to Chemistry and Sendouts Department. Duties include monitoring quality control for over 50 tests, performed comparisons, calibrations, linearities and firm knowledge of Westgard rules/Levy Jennings charts. Experienced with sampling for immunosuppressant drug levels, hepatitis status, and electrophoresis/immunofixations. Other duties include sweat chloride testing, point of care testing, toxicology, and osmometry. Member of NYU Langone Medical Center's Laboratory VHF(Viral Hemorrhagic Fever) team, responsible for running specialized chemistry devices and on-call status if a VHF situation arises. Fully trained in donning and doffing procedures taught by contracted FDNY hazmat personnel.

LIS - worked with LIS team that utilized scripting(terminal emulation) . Learned SQL (database) basics.

Histocompatibility - organ transplant work up and utilized gel-pulse technology

Chemistry and Special Chemistry - dry and wet chemistry , body fluid analysis ,operated various analyzers Special Coagulation & Urinalysis-operated platelet function testing and factor testing. Manual urine microscopy.Immunohematology- identifying antibodies with antigrams , operated automated analyzer via gel method , tube method and techniques to find least incompatible blood. Spent time in donor room.

Hematology - manual sed and spun crits. Perfected manual smears. Performed manual differentials and operated a vintage analyzer .

Immunology & Flow Cytometry - ANA , ANCA , histogram analysis , special tissue processing

Microbiology - performed or operated plating , automated urine plating, wet mounts , manual and automated suspectibility testing and identification. Trained on wound, enterics and miscellaneous benches. Rotated into TB room, Mycology and Parasitology.Special Hematology- A1c testing via chromatography, factor testing, PFASpecial Immunology- serum allergy testing, RPR, fluorescence microscopy
