Bob Karp received his BFA from Syracuse University and was a 29-year staff photographer and multimedia producer for Gannett NJ Press Media Group. Karp was named Photographer of the Year by the New Jersey Press Photographers Association and previously worked for the Associated Press and New York Newsday. He has traveled throughout the U.S. and the world, including a 1999 earthquake in the coffee-growing region of Colombia and the 2000 government transfer of the Panama Canal and its effect on local readers. Over the years, Karp has covered New York’s Jets Giants, Mets and Yankees during training camps, regular season, playoffs and championships, the New Jersey Nets as well as the Stanley Cup-winning New Jersey Devils. That also included Tim Tebow-mania, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and the Little League World Series.He photographed the 9/11 attacks in New York City and their aftermath, Hurricanes Irene and Sandy and their effects on New Jersey. He is a veteran of two 24-hour photo projects and author of popular blog, "The Photojournalist," which offered a glimpse into the challenges and realities of his life of a news photographer. Karp was the recipient of a prestigious Medallion from the 2019 Silurians Press Club Journalism Awards for his Breaking News image, “Class Trip Turns Deadly” as well as being part of the winning The Record/NorthJersey.com team winning a Medallion for Breaking News Reporting. Recently, Karp is a two-time winner of the North Carolina Press Association’s ‘Hugh Morton Photographer of the Year.’In addition to photojournalism, Karp is a former competitive runner and Ironman triathlete. He currently lives in Rio de Janeiro with his wife, Claudia, and their spoiled dog, Bodhi.
