I am an author, researcher, and consultant with over 40 years of experience in technology, education, social development, and policy. My book, "Make the World a Better Place: Design with Passion, Purpose, and Values", published by Wiley in 2023, offers practical guidance and inspiring stories for designers, educators, and change-makers who want to create positive change in the world.As an emeritus principal scientist at SRI International, I collaborated with ministries of education, national agencies, multinational organizations, and high tech companies on how to use information and communication technology to transform education and support economic and social development. My expertise includes policy analysis, software design, education technology research, and theory. Some of my major clients and funders have been Intel, Microsoft, UNESCO, OECD, World Bank, National Science Foundation, and governments of Singapore, Norway, Chile, and others. I also volunteered in rural communities in east Africa, where I helped communities and schools integrate technology local practices. Earlier in my career I was an elementary teacher in Detroit's inner city and, for 20 years, a research scientist and professor at the University of Michigan.
