Robert L. Email and Phone Number
I am an experienced engineer with proven capability in 2D and 3D CAD. My career thus far has had a particular focus on design engineering and subsequent manufacturing. In light of my interests and background, it's an industry I have a natural aptitude for. I am well organised and flexible owing to my experience operating in a high volume manufacturing environment. I also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.I have a very strong interest in all aspects of mechanical engineering. This is particularly the case with all types of agricultural, earthmoving, forestry and materials processing machinery (stone crushers, screeners, etc). Consequently, I am subscribed to several industry publications such as Profi, IVT (industrial vehicle technology), Earthmovers, Hub-4, etc.My experience out in industry has taught me the importance of design for manufacture as well as the vital role of the Continuous Improvement Process (CIP). I have always taken a keen interest in the manufacture of components released from design. This is especially the case when my own production drawings are concerned. As an example, I would often ask the factory floor personnel if they were happy with the level of detail on a given drawing.I am a conscientious and hard working individual. I get along well with people. I follow instructions well and am never afraid to seek advice from other team members. As a result I am equally capable of working in a team, as I am working on my own initiative. Thanks to experience out in industry, I have developed a good ability to learn new skills. I am always eager to improve and expand my engineering knowledge.

Order Processing & FulfilmentLiebherr Maritime Cranes May 2021 - PresentKillarney, County Kerry, Ireland• Processing of spare parts orders that come to me from multiple area coordinators. This requires me to be well organised & have good time management. Certain customers have multiple delivery addresses & even invoicing accounts. It is necessary to be thorough when processing such orders to avoid mistakes.• Emailing customers directly to answer their queries on delayed deliveries or just simply updating them on order progress.• Following up with purchasing department and/or suppliers to ensure components are delivered into LCC in a timely manner.• Following up with internal production to ensure manufactured components are completed. Namely departments such as machining, final assembly, & electrical.• Creating BSM tickets to get programmable parts programmed. Spare parts such as power cards, computers, laser scanners, etc, all require programming.• The role provides a great insight into logistics & warehousing. -
Design EngineerLiebherr Maritime Cranes Feb 2015 - May 2021Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland- Project Management: Responsible for the design of access platforms & ladders running the length of a Derrick Boom & Main Beam (both structures are often over 60 m in length). Afterwards, I then do the electrical cable channel drawings for both structures so they can be outfitted with electrical components & cables (lights, gate locks, switches, etc).• This requires a considerable amount of 3D modelling along with detailed fabrication drawings.• Management of lengthy BOM lists.• Ensure that the Platforms conform to regulations specified by the client.• Close collaboration with the electrical engineering department to ensure adequate provision (in terms of brackets, support frames, etc) is made for terminal boxes, floodlights, electrical cable, HVAC units, etc.- Continuous Improvement:• Whenever necessary, carrying out revisions to production drawings to include extra sectional and/or detailed views. This is to give greater clarity to the welders & fabricators.• Revisions carried out to large steel construction assemblies to facilitate revised routing of cable channel, addition of reinforcement plates, weld-on brackets replaced or changed for easier fabrication, etc.- Assembly Drawings for On-Site Erection Crews: This involves creating highly detailed assembly drawings to aid on-site erection crews when putting together large sub-assemblies. Those sub-assemblies ultimately combine together to form the entire container crane. All individual component parts are labelled with their ID No. as well as their corresponding drawing number. The drawings require numerous sectional & detailed views for clarity reasons. - Top level crane assembly (GA - general assembly) drawings:This involves creating & bringing together the various sub-assemblies of an STS Crane into 1 top-level assembly. Then using colouring and rendering to match the colour spec. The GA drawings are then used by the sales & marketing dept when meeting new, prospective clients. -
Student Design EngineerLiebherr Maritime Cranes Jan 2014 - Sep 2014Killarney, County Kerry, IrelandLiebherr Container Cranes (LCC) is a company within the Liebherr group. There are currently 4 main products designed and manufactured by LCC. They are Straddle Carriers, Rubber Tyre Gantry (RTG) cranes, Ship to Shore (STS) container cranes and Rail Mounted Gantry cranes. My role with the company included but was not limited to:- Production Drawings: I used the 3D design program, Pro-Engineer Wildfire 4.0 to design a huge variety of components. They included access platforms, brackets, support frames and even structural components. I then had to produce highly detailed part and assembly drawings for each of the 3D models I made. Comprehensive BOM's (bill of materials) were also needed for all components / technical drawings I released into production.- Helping other Design Engineers: If for whatever reason, a design engineer needed help on a given project, I was often asked to lend a hand. A basic example entailed the senior design engineer doing the 3D modelling and I then producing the corresponding, fully dimensioned manufacturing / technical drawing.- 3D Representations for Manuals: Again, using the 3D CAD program Pro-Engineer, I created large assemblies to demonstrate ease of access (for maintenance purposes) to different areas of a ship to shore container crane. I then orientated the finished assembly so as to find a view that would best illustrate ease of access. The most appropriate views were then forwarded to the documentation department who used my assemblies in various maintenance manuals and structural inspection manuals.- Signage on Cranes: This role required me to liaise quite frequently with the end customer to ensure that they were happy with both the type and positioning of signage (company logos, etc) at numerous locations throughout a large container crane. -
Student Design EngineerDooley Bros. Engineering Mar 2013 - Oct 2013Ballycallan, County Kilkenny, IrelandDooley Bros. Engineering is a family owned company based in Ballycallan, County Kilkenny. The company specialises in the design and manufacture of agricultural and commercial trailers. My role with the company included, but was not limited to:- Production Drawings: I used 2D AutoCAD to produce detailed plan, elevation and end views of trailer chassis designs. Sectional views were also needed for more intricate areas of a trailer chassis such as drawbar connection to main chassis.- Calculations: I had to be comfortable working in both imperial and metric units. I did a lot of calculations by hand to work out the tipping angle for various tipping body trailer designs. I also did numerous hydraulics calculations such as verifying the volume of a new choice of 5 stage tipping ram.- Hydraulic Hosing / Fittings Requirements: Using Microsoft Excel, I created spreadsheets listing the hydraulic apparatus requirements of various trailer model designs. For example, on a 20 tonne dump trailer, I physically measured and then recorded the length and size of the main tipping hose as well as listing the fittings (i.e. T-pieces, 1/2'' male quick release coupling) which went with that main tipping hose.- Quality Control: I created detailed checklists for each type of trailer. After final fit-out, I checked each trailer thoroughly to ensure conformity with customer requirements. Such checks included visual inspection of structural welds, testing of air and/or hydraulic brake systems, visual inspection of paint finish, etc.
