As well as the detailed mechanical design my role also requires that all company/industry standards (including security, cosmetic, durability) are met.- Mechanical Design: Using Creo, design of all parts/components within the mechanical assembly.- Design conception: Working with Product Design team to ensure final design spec is manufacturable and trouble shoot potential issues at conceptual design stage.- Document/design control: Use of Windchill vault/database.- Technical Drawings: Detailed 2D drawings with dimensions and geometric tolerances.- Manufacturing processes: Injection moulded parts. Other component parts use compression mouldings and sheet metal pressings.- Bespoke electro-mechanical design parts: Collaboration with electro-mechanical suppliers to produce LCD screens/cameras- Prototyping: Creating full scale prototypes using 3D printing technology to ensure good assembly of parts and provide accurate size representation.- Lead meetings: Leading design review meetings to evaluate design-readiness.- Supplier Interaction: During the design process I am in constant contact with our international plastic and metal part tool makers ensuring the design is interpreted correctly.- Onsite support: Supplier/Manufacturing site visits for part approval and NPI/Mass Production builds.- Communication: Close working relationships with Hardware and Electrical Engineers.- Change Orders: BOM maintenance and Engineering Change Control using Agile.- HQA: QA testing, drop test, tumble test, impact test, ingress-protection. - R&D: Create new parts and assemblies that can aid future design issues with clever solutions or cost-saving measures.
