I started with the City of Toronto Planning Department and then moved to consulting in 1974. I was one of the original group that started the IBI Group when they left KPMG. I started my own firm Lehman &Associates in 1983, The Planning Partnership came about through my efforts in 1996 and I was one of the founding partners. In 1998 I co-founded MKI, Metropolitan Knowledge International, a real estate advisory firm, with McCormick Rankin. In 2001 I was the president of Meridian Planning Consultants and left in 2008 to return to a small practice as Lehman & Associates. I am the editor, author and publisher of the Zoning Trilogy, a planners resource. Consisting of the Zoning Dictionary, Zoning Provisions Encyclopedia and Zoning Diagrams Compendium it is in 1500 libraries worldwide. It is available online as a searchable database through subscription. I was Chair of the College of Fellows of the Canadian Institute of Planners from 2010 to 2014. In my consulting career I have been involved in over 500 OMB and court hearings. Currently advising Toronto District School Board on intensification issues, several major industries dealing with redevelopment of residential uses in proximity to them, and municipalities preparing new comprehensive zoning by-laws.
