Outline: Leading a newly-formed Operations team, Operations Managers are responsible for managing best-in-class projects to drive profitable business growth. Overseeing a number business change projects and implementation of new client programs, with a focus on improving operational efficiency and exceeding client expectations. A 12 month professional placement as part of my degree course, facilitated by the Economics department. This was a fantastic introduction to the world of work, providing an opportunity to develop a lot of softer skills that you can't learn in a University lecture hall. I really enjoyed seeing Economics in action, and being immersed in a fast-paced environment with a team of experienced economists. Living in London for a year was amazing, unfortunately more of my salary went to the bars & clubs of central London than into my savings for my final year at University - but I wouldn't change a thing if I could! My principle responsibility was to produce up-to-date calendars for release dates of economic indicators. These covered many countries, encompassing multiple timezones and country-specific terminology. Besides that, I was given relatively free reign to get involved in as many different areas as desired. Some of the highlights include: creating a process to streamline the reporting of currency high/lows. Designing & implementing reporting coverage of Portuguese economics indicators, in response to client demand for increased coverage of peripheral economies.Assisting in software development through testing & providing feedback to the technical team. Compiling competitor research to be used in evaluations of potential acquisitions.
