Profile bio

About Robert Libbey

My name is Robert Libbey and I have been an RMT for 28yrs. From 2001-2008 I was on faculty at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy instructing in the Orthopedic, Neurological Examination Departments and also as a Pre-Board Examiner to the final term students.17 yrs ago, recognizing that there was a lack in fully understanding the ligamentous articular joint structures and in what role they play overall in the body, I set out to find a specific manual treatment that focused on the ligamentous system.Ligamentous Articular Strain Techniques are based on the original principles used by Dr. Sutherland DO and Dr. Still DO before classifications like myofascial release were introduced.LAST is a precise, principle based, mechanoreceptor specific manual therapy technique, supported by evidence-informed research, utilized in the treatment of peripheral joint tissue injuries to improve treatment outcomes and improve the quality of life of patients. LAST influences the fascial system and CNS modulation by targeting the ligamentoperiosteal and tenoperiosteal enthuses; areas known to have high concentrations of mechanoreceptors. Mechanoreceptor specific techniques, targeting peripheral joint tissues, affect autonomic nervous system functions resulting in decreased protective myofascial engagement, increased pain pressure sensitivity, normalize kinesthetic and proprioceptive awareness improving treatment outcomes.Ligamentous/Peripheral Joint Injuries are neurophysiologic dysfunctions influencing “Executive Functions” such as processing of somatosensory information by the prefrontal cortex, causing reorganization of the central nervous system, in essence affecting neuroplasticity.Making changes to how the mechanoreceptors and articular sensory nerves provide information to the CNS is the primary goal of LAST. The technique manually targets mechanoreceptors located at the ligamentoperiosteal and tenoperiosteal junction/enthuses.

Listed skills include Myofascial Release, Sports Injuries, Trigger Point Therapy, Headaches, and 46 others.

L.A.S.T. in the form that I instruct has been in development for 10yrs.The goal of L.A.S.T. is to balance the tension in the ligaments, capsule, and surrounding fascial tissues and to maintain that equal tension until the body corrects the fault. The truth is, learning how to be a Manual Therapist does not prepare you to develop a successful practice. It informs you on how to be an effective therapist. Many therapists they become busy working “IN” their business, but never fully take the time or put in the effort of working “ON” their business. According to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook and the Florida Board of Massage Therapy and Florida State Massage Therapy Association, most massage therapists’ work part-time due to the physical demands of the occupation, injury, burnout, poor business planning and possibly and overestimation of earning potential. The information before you is an attempt to develop within you a successful mindset. It’s my sincere hope that this information will provide you with insights into some of your daily habits that may be having a detrimental effect on your practice and your life. By becoming aware of these bad habits, you can reflect, implement strategies and embody principles that can positively transform your practice, your life and your patients’ experiences in your practice.Robert
