Cascadia Partners represents decades of experience in planning, design, development finance, project management and engagement. They provide support for strategic planning and urban design, scenario planning, updating zoning codes and assistance to public and private landowners to help them understand and realize the development potential of their properties. Cascadia Partners works with clients across the country, from Pittsburg to Portland, and Baton Rouge to Salt Lake City.

The Columbia River Gorge Commission co-administers the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area with the US Forest Service. The Commission is a bi-state commission created by Federal legislation enacted in 1986. In April 2015, I was appointed to the Commission by the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners. In November 2019 I was elected to a one-year term as Chair, starting January 2020. This is a volunteer position.

The Institute for Sustainable Solutions was created at Portland State University to support sustainability research, education and partnerships. ISS acts as a connector between different disciplines and units of the University and as a facilitator of the large and growing number of partnerships with governments, businesses and nonprofit organizations in the region that are working to implement and enhance sustainability practices and programs. ISS tries to exemplify the University's motto, "Let knowledge serve the city." In 2008 ISS was the recipient of a $25 million grant from the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation of Portland which funds our work and the support we provide to participating faculty, students and their partnerships.

The Urban Sustainability Accelerator was created to assist government agencies, businesses and nonprofit organizations in the US in the implementation of their sustainability projects. The Accelerator draws on the special sustainability expertise in the Portland region, which includes everything from urban growth boundaries, active transportation, energy conservation, urban natural area protections and green infrastructure. We have worked with teams across the country, from Sacramento to Portland Maine, and from Waco Texas to Lansing Michigan and statewide in California. Our assistance efforts have focused on redevelopment of downtowns, downtown adjacent neighborhoods or commercial corridors; many of those projects also had elements relating to transit, active transportation and green infrastructure. We helped state, regional and local governments in California to implement Senate Bill 743 which has shifted the focus of environmental impact analysis and mitigation from reducing congestion by building new roads to reducing driving. During 2018-19 we worked with teams in Washington DC, Seattle and Charlottesville Virginia promoting the construction of accessory dwelling units and find ways to use those new units to help realize equity, affordability and sustainability outcomes.

The Sustainable Cities Initiative combines the expertise and research capacity of the University's faculty with the energy and creativity of its students and puts those assets in service to the creation and operation of sustainable cities in Oregon, the US and the world.

The Metro Council is the elected governing body for the Portland, Oregon regional government, Metro. Metro has broad land use and transportation planning responsibilities, including setting and amending the regional urban growth boundary and adopting the regional framework plan and the regional transportation plan. Metro is responsible for recycling, waste reduction and disposal at the regional level and owns or operates the Oregon Zoo, the Oregon Convention Center, the Oregon Expo Center and a 10,000 acre system of natural areas and parks.

I worked half-time for Congressman Blumenauer doing research and analysis on issues concerning the Federal role in the creation of livable communities.

While Executive Director of 1000 Friends of Oregon, I led our staff in turning back legislative and initiative attacks on Oregon's land use laws, which curb sprawl, increase housing and transportation choices, save tax dollars and protect farms, forest, rangeland, coastal areas and natural resources. During my tenure, we completed an endowment campaign, opened regional offices and supported citizen leadership around the state.

I represented citizens and citizen groups in land use proceedings at the local level, before the Land Use Board of Appeals and in the Oregon appellate courts. My work included serving as a Land Use Hearings Officer for Multnomah County, Oregon.

I reviewed land use plans and regulations adopted by Oregon's cities, counties and state agencies to determine if they complied with Oregon's land use laws and goals. I filed precedent-setting cases in Oregon's appellate courts and before the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals on behalf of citizens and the organization. I helped conceive a new, integrated approach to land use and transportation planning that, under others' leadership, led to the adoption of new land development regulations as a substitute for a planned highway.
