I am a spatial epidemiologist conducting research on violence, tobacco use, alcohol use and spatial epidemiological methods. Currently I am a co-Investigator on the grant - Spatiotemporal Analysis of Disparities in Ovarian Cancer Treatment and Survival awarded by the NATIONAL INSTITUTE ON MINORITY HEALTH AND HEALTH DISPARITIES to UC Irvine. I currently have in submission, as PI, a small grant for mapping e-cigarette vending and school proximity in LA. I am also helping develop another cancer related grant, as Co-I, with the UC Irvine team. I will also be helping to develop a new center grant at PRC

I worked at the University of Michigan’s Injury Center (within the Department of Emergency Medicine). We were a recently funded CDC injury center with a general goal to help increase institutional, regional and community research capacity for injury prevention. I was the PI for a R01-equivalent research component focusing on spatial examination of teen driver policies before and after graduated driver's license implementation. I was also the director of the statistics and methods core for the center. My second affiliation was with the University of Michigan Prevention Research Center (UMPRC) at the School of Public Health (UMSPH), where I helped to obtain the CDC Flint Youth Violence Prevention Center grant. As a co-PI, I was responsible for spatial and social epidemiological issues related to violence and other health outcomes. In addition, at the UMSPH, I was a co-investigator on research examining childhood obesity. We were modeling childhood neighborhood factors that predict body mass index for Head Start participants.

Dr. Lipton can lead or collaborate in the development of research or foundation grants of any size. While much of his work has been in medicine and public health, he has obtained non-profit community- based funding for diverse cultural and recreational programs. He is expert in epidemiological, biostatistical and big data methods that support research programs.

Help direct community engagement for the CTSC also support epidemiological and biostatistical analysis, grant and manuscript development for the center. Also work as a spatial epidemiologist for the Center for Reducing Health Disparities, developing grants on violence prevention and health services to underserved communities. Temporary position

I ran the health research statistics unit (HRSU) in the office of health equity. We were responsible for developing an epidemiological/statistical profile of the state that accesses health equity and disparities across a variety of important health metrics. Further, we worked on geo-spatial issues in characterizing community health indicators across the state. We also helped work on issues related to climate change and health in regard to health equity issues.

Spatial epidemiologist- Unit Chief Office of Health Equity – Health Research Statistics Unit, California Department of Health. I was the unit chief for the health research statistics unit (HRSU) in the office of health equity in the CA department of Health (CDPH). I was responsible for developing the state mandated demographic report on health equity for CA and in this role we dealt with a variety of data, including complexly sampled surveys such as the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS). I worked directly with CHIS staff and our office helps fund the CHIS survey I was also directing development of healthy community indicators for CA as well as serving as acting principal investigator for the CDC funded California Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (BRACE) program. In this role, we worked very closely with local community and county health departments in co-developing adaptation reports and local vulnerability assessments. I also worked closely with other programs within CDPH to develop a coherent and rigorous data registry for the CDPH. I also developed grant applications within CDPH and with outside partners.
