After school (1971) worked for Ministry of Agriculture looking at effects of modern farming, especially pesticides, on the environment (until 1978), taking an external degree in Applied Biology. Then a change of direction, becoming musical instrument maker in residence at South Hill Park Arts Centre from 1978-81, then moving to Oxfordshire to set up my own workshops making early instruments and specialised woodwork and design on our 1 acre smallholding. Set up the Oxford Garden Project as a NFPSE in 2000 to share my love and knowledge of low input and organic growing and community growing schemes. Still advise, lecture, broadcast and teach, main role is now advisory to community groups, local and national government, corporate and private estates and further research into land race varieties and low till/no dig cultivation.
