About Robert Burton

I am a hands-on process engineer with 15 years work experience covering research and technology development, plant design and process optimisation, and commercial plant operations support, who enjoys new and challenging engineering assignments.Over the last 4 years I have worked in the Environmental Engineering space, with a focus on air abatement and emissions reductions opportunities. This has involved a healthy mix of technology assessments, supporting the execution of the Environmental Compliance Projects for design and implementation of these solutions, providing the commercial plants with emissions monitoring and trouble-shooting tools to successfully resolve problems, as well as Environmental Sustainability and Strategy related initiatives for the GHG reductions program.Prior to that I spent 10 years in the FT Catalyst & Engineering, Projects and R&T Operations teams. During this time I worked on a variety of catalyst development, scale-up and performance testing projects (batch and continuous processes). My experience ranges from nurturing new processes in the concept generation phase, detailed process design and equipment sizing for new implementation and MOCs, through to the ultimate construction, startup, commissioning and subsequent long-term operation of pilot- and semi-commercial scale units for catalyst preparation, solids and slurry-handling systems, fluidised bed reactor systems and off gas-treatment – with all the problem-solving, optimisation and multi-disciplinary team-work required along the way to make these ventures a success and reach the common goal!As a self-driven individual with a keen eye for the details and a goal-orientated focus, I have a well-demonstrated track-record of seeing projects through from kick-off to completion. The lessons learned and skills developed during this time are universal. Thus, even in relatively new areas of exposure I have been able to draw on past experiences and apply them successfully to new engineering assignments.
