I moved into the industry after a career in school administration and leadership. I started at the ground floor working as a Blast Assistant seeking to learn as much about the drilling and blasting industry as I could. In addition to working as a Blast Assistant I also worked as a driver doing parts running and staff transport, as well as warehousing and receiving explosives deliveries from suppliers. In February 2023 I moved into Field Safety where I used my previous administrative experience along with my new skills in the field to identify, assess, and mitigate hazards and risks. I performed site inspections, investigations and documentation as well as serving as Acting Project Administrator. In May of 2023 I began taking courses through the Alberta Construction Safety Association towards achieving NHSA/NCSO certification. As of May 22/24, I have achieved NHSA certification and only require 900 hours of in field work to achieve NCSO certification.
