I am currently the EA's lead nuclear regulator for the proposed Sizewell C power station. This includes leading the EA team assessing the current RSR permit application. I have over 22 years' experience of undertaking and regulating environmental and waste management activities at a wide range of nuclear sites in the England and Wales. This includes time spent as a senior environmental specialist for two nuclear operators, an Environment Agency nuclear regulator for eleven nuclear licensed sites, two periods of being the EA technical lead for Magnox regulation and also undertaking New Nuclear Build assessment and associated permitting. These roles have included working a wide range of stakeholders such as nuclear operators, regulators/Govt bodies (i.e. ONR, NRW, SEPA, FSA, PHE, etc.), local and national Governments, local councils, health boards and other stakeholders (e.g. NGOs, the public).

  Responsible for the regulation of environmental issues at nine nuclear licensed sites in England and Wales as well as Corporate Regulation of Magnox and GEHC. Duties included: 1. Providing advice to operators on compliance with EPR 2010 and other environmental legislation. Using a range of methods to remedy where an operator is either not compliant or at risk of becoming non-compliant with environmental legislation. 2. Regulating environmental issues associated with operational and decommissioning reactors through regulating Oldbury and Sizewell A Power Stations and carrying out EPR 2010 inspections at all southern Magnox sites and at EDF-EN AGR stations.3. Regulating operational and decommissioning facilities at nuclear weapon sites, research sites and radio-pharmaceutical sites.4. Experience of dealing with Government, legal advisers, the media, Non-Governmental Organisations and the public regarding high profile nuclear issues.5. Conducting technical evaluations of BAT studies for a wide range of plant and wastes as well as assessing Integrated Waste Strategies (IWS) and Radioactive Waste Management Cases (RWMC).6. Creating, developing and maintaining good working relationships with Office for Nuclear Regulation inspectors and senior site management. 7. Carrying out the Nuclear Technical Specialist role at Gold Command and other technical centres (e.g. CESC Barnwood) and leading the EA's Technical and Radiological Monitoring Assessment Centre (TARMAC) during nuclear emergency exercises and being on-call for dealing with incidents involving radioactivity.
