Working with the application of boride diffusion layers to improve surface hardness and wear resistance of high temperature components.

My work primarily deals with failure analysis with respect to manufacturing issues and legal cases. Other tasks and responsibilities include SEM / EDS analysis of discolorations and contamination as well as particle identification and characterization. Support for simulated service testing as well as onsite replication of component microstructures where shipping of components is not feasible or desirable.

The job was primarily in the mill of the nickel mine in Thompson, Manitoba, Canada. Duties involved process monitoring and optimization as well as production modelling and metals accounting. Responsibilities did include inspection and management of the tailings pond.

This job was a summer job for the years mentioned in Timmins, Ontario, Canada. Responsibilities included preparing, fire assaying and analyzing samples for the presence of gold. The process included crushing, grinding and weighing submitted samples followed by fire assay and concluded with either gravimetric analysis or analysis by atomic absorption.
