Robert Marable currently serves as a team leader for Parks & People’s “Building Resources And Nurturing Community Health and Environmental Stewardship” (BRANCHES) division, an innovative year-round Urban Forestry job training for Baltimore City youth ages 14 to 21, and part of Parks & People’s Green Career Ladder. Prior to his role in BRANCHES, he was the Community Schools Coordinator for Franklin Square Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore, facilitating communication and resource sharing between the school, its students, parents and community. He began studying plants at a young age while spending time with his grandfather in North Carolina. From there he progressed to studying with nutritionists, herbalist, iridologist, acupuncturist, shamans, and traditional African healers, resulting in the creation of his herbal-based health & wellness business, BlackAloes. He began community gardening in Austin, TX in 2005, while also working on a farm. He served for 4 years in the United States Army, and has an educational background in Graphic Design and Advertising from Virginia Commonwealth University. In his spare time, he loves to cook (specializing in Vegetarian, Vegan, Raw, Caribbean, and African food), crochet, make jewelry, sew, play soccer, perform the African-Brazilian martial art Capoeira Angola, brew Kombucha and make wine, garden, study plants, rock climbing, kayaking, camping, travel, explore African and world history, and promote a ‘Green” lifestyle.
